Hope you have enjoyed the summer. I am back to share with you in a new way….I am starting a new video blog sharing format!
Bear with me on this first one as I refine the video posts…but just know the message will be a good one!
Hope you enjoy 🙂
Last week I was cleaning out an old notebook. I came across an email from my high school BFF who happens to also be a blogger over at Girltinilive.com (go check her out)…. but I digress. The email was from 5 years ago and my BFF sent it to me to give me a little “push ” via email. See 5 years ago, I was just realizing that A2H was my purpose…at that time I was creating and formalizing my dreams! The email was short and sweet. At the time a few of my friends were reading every book that author and life coach Iyanla Vanzant would put out. My BFF shared a passage with me in that she found particularly powerful.
Not sure if she knows…but it was very impactful. I saved it because it moved me so much at that time. I share it with you now in hopes that it is just as impactful for someone else!
I am reading an awesome book-again- called “Value in the Valley” by Iyanla Vanzant and there was a passage that struck me with so much power I had to share it! Love you much.
Passage From Value in the Valley by Iyanla Vanzant
….”The key is commitment. Many people treat their purpose as a hobby and their job as a way of life. You must be committed to your purpose even when it does not pay well. Each day, you must commit a certain amount of time to your purpose, your talent. ….Be able to see how what you do can be, will be, of value to the world. That dream should not hinge on making money. It should hinge on your love of what you do and your willingness to give yourself doing it…..What each and everyone of us does have is the opportunity to spend some part of everyday giving ourselves to the thing we love.”
This email is still impactful to me 5 years later. I share it as my #TBT post because I want to know who was your BFF 5 years ago and do they still have impact in your life? Be sure you spend time building meaningful and lasting relationships, so you too can share my sentiments when I say, My BFF is better than yours!

As a child I had an active imagination and as a teen that imagination turned into plain old grandiose dreams. I used to imagine myself as a singer and movie star and even as a teen, I would sometimes create fake television shows and videos in my basement. Well, only a few things have changed. I no longer dream of being famous, singing or acting. However, I am still guilty of getting lost in my imagination. These days I use my imagination to guide my work and voila……you have what I have coined “VISIONWORK” (trademark forthcoming).
The Aspire2Higher movement follows the precept that ALL your work should be VISIONWORK, meaning that your work should be steps, action items, or strategies leading to the development of your VISION.
Tonight I decided to take a look back to where I’ve been. This post is dedicated to ThrowBack Thursday and is a letter I wrote to myself a few years ago when I moved back to Philadelphia (home) and was a single unemployed mom trying to find my way.
Hope this glimpse into my past thoughts provides someone with motivation to continue on their journey as I continue on mine.

What a bright future you’ve got ahead of you! Be encouraged, stay faithful, focused and driven. You may be struggling right now, but only you and GOD see the light at the end of the tunnel. Remember the many books you’ve read that describe how to change your thought process or cease your “negative self talk”? Well, ACT LIKE IT! Stop telling yourself you can’t write a book that will make an impact. Stop doubting your own abilities. These last few months have been hard for you….humbling to say the least, but remember how GOD has kept you when you make it through.
I expect you to share your testimony in the future because it will be an inspiration to someone. I’ll check in on you from time to time. I’m proud of you and I love you.
Stephanie (the old you)

Second track: Brandy Scared of Beautiful
Third track: Hezikiah Walker Every Praise
Fourth track: Jessie J featuring. Brandy Conquer the World
Last track(explicit lyrics): Beyonce Flawless
I choose these tracks because the lyrics motivate me. So, these are my song choices….what will yours be? Share in the comments below!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
HELLO A2H readers! I am back to share more stories about this entrepreneurial journey. These last few months have had me feeling totally overwhelmed and exhausted. All I remember about summer is that I was working with several clients on projects, job searches etc. and trying to plan an event. Next thing. I know, it was September, my kids were back to school and my full-time job was driving me crazy!
Then came November/December and I am feeling very disconnected from my journey. Being completely honest, I am doubting my ability to pull this off. Since school has kicked into gear, my MOM duties have been taking all of my time and energy. I have doubted my ability to be the type of fully engaged mother I want to be while also being an entrepreneur. Oh, and let’s not forget that I work a full-time 9-5 gig that requires a lot of thought, energy and engagement as well. What the hell was I thinking trying to start a business, kick off a movement and raise 2 children? Lately I just don’t know if it is possible to do what I am attempting to do.
This is new for me, I have not been here before. In fact, these feelings go against everything I know about myself, my goals and my vision. After all, this company and movement is called Aspire2Higher…and my job is to encourage people to aspire for more…no matter what! This movement was started based on my belief that once you have discovered your purpose and create a vision, you are destined for personal and professional success! This blog post is a testament to the fact that you will have bad days and rough seas. I am a testament that with your vision in place and through your visionwork, YOU are a captain and will stay the course!
I am realizing day after day that this is a very difficult road, but, I am determined and resilient. Yes, I doubt my ability to be a successful entrepreneur, author, educator and mother of two, but I still have a burning desire to be all of those things. My passion and desire to meet my goals outweighs the doubt every time. I have decided to remind myself that this season was just UNREASONABLE DOUBT.
